General Notes: Husband - James Mitchell, Sr.

He was a native of Ireland, was brought to America when an infant, and reared in Maryland. From that state he emigrated to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and, in 1796, he came to Butler County and located on the farm which his son, Judge James Mitchell, later owned.
He was a soldier in the War of 1812.
He lived a quiet, peaceable life, made no enemies, and had hosts of friends. His hospitable home was always kept with the latch-string out. He was long a member of the Presbyterian Church, which he joined under its first pastor.

He came with two brothers to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, whence, in 1796, he removed to Butler County and settled in what is now Summit township. He cleared up a farm on which he resided until his death.
