General Notes: Husband - Samuel Edwin Hunter McFarland

The Smith-Premier typewriter was changed and adapted to the use of Siamese characters by him. He worked daily with the type-cutters in Syracuse, New York, assisting them in pre-paring the correct letters. This machine was the only one in use in Siam and the foreign legations of the Siamese government throughout the world. The use of this ma-chine was very general in Siam and the business was later carried on by his only surviving brother, Dr. George B. McFarland.

He died unmarried, dropping dead from his bicycle near Canonsburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
