In 1898 he resided on his farm on Banner Ridge in Greenwood township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, at the age of seventy-one. Politically, he is a stalwart Republican, but never aspired to office. His first wife had died when their daughter Rachel was was only seven years old, and he was living with his third wife.
