• Document. When he emigrated with his family from Ireland, he brought with him a letter of recommendation from his pastor, which reads as follows:
Gillicorbit, May ye 19, 1736.
The bearer, James McKeun, with his wife Isabelle and their children William, Joan, Henry, and Margaret McKeun, have been orderly members of this congregation, he from his infancy and she from her marriage: still free from all public scandal or Church censure and in good repute: and now designing to transport themselves (with Divine concurrence) unto some of the Protestant colonies in America I do heartily recommend them to the care and Christian fellowship of any religious societies where God in His Providence shall order their lot.

General Notes: Husband - James McEwen


The founder of the family in America, he emigrated with his family from Ireland in 1736, and landed at Newcastle, New Jersey, having been eleven weeks and three days on the voyage. He brought with him a letter of recommendation from his pastor, which reads as follows:
Gillicorbit, May ye 19, 1736.
