After securing an education he studied law and practiced for a time at Chi­cago, IL, removing from there to Seattle, WA, in the early 1890's. He was prominently identified with the growth of that city and was an extensive real estate owner there. “The Judge”, as he was familiar­ly called, later retired from active prac­tice at the bar and engaged himself in looking after the interests of his real estate and other hold­ings.
