General Notes: Husband - Andrew McElwain

The McElwaines were among the earliest settlers of the Cumberland Valley in Pennsylvania. Andrew McElwaine came to what is now Mifflin township, Cumberland County, as early as 1729, if not earlier. His farm was what was later known as the "Fountain of Health." The massacre of the Williamsons by the Indians occurred on an adjoining farm. Mrs. McElwaine was the first person to discover the presence of the natives in the neighborhood and give the alarm.
