He received his education at the California State Normal School, after which he taught school nine years. He studied medicine with Dr. T. C. M. Stockton, and was graduated from the University of the city of New York, in 1883. He first located in McDonald, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and then came to Frankfort Springs, Beaver County, where he built up a good practice. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church, of which he was the Sunday-school assistant superintendent. In politics he was a Republican.
