His educational advantages were exceedingly limited. He commenced life by clearing a farm, and as the result of industry and frugal living, gained a fine farm of two hundred acres. For over twenty-five years he was successfully engaged in farming and stock raising. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and in politics a Prohibitionist. [HVC 1890, 959]
