General Notes: Husband - Andrew McCreight

He was seven years of age when he was brought to America, and grew to manhood in Pennsylvania.
He and his wife began life together as tenants in a humble home located on Plum creek, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a tenant and cropper. By industry he prospered, and soon accumulating some money, went to Jefferson County, and purchased a tract of uncleared land, which was cheaper in that county. The young couple removed to their new home, and, after much hard work, succeeded in clearing enough of the land to carry on farming. With that undying spirit of pluck, he finally obtained enough property to provide all necessary comforts of life, which he enjoyed. In politics he was an Old-line Whig, and then a Republican, taking an active interest in the success of his party. Both he and his wife were consistent members of the U. P. Church.

He came to Winslow township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, in 1832 and purchased a tract of one hundred acres at what later became Big Soldier, two miles south of what is now Reynoldsville. He made his living as the pioneers usually did, cutting the lumber from his land and putting the soil under cultivation as the work of clearing advanced, improving the farm later owned by his son Thomas, and then by the latter's sons, James M. and Everett L.

He died aged seventy-four years, eight days.

General Notes: Wife - Ann Sharp
