She was graduated from Sheakleyville High School in 1914 and from Slippery Rock State Normal School in 1916. She taught in the elementary grades in Sharon, Pennsylvania, for four years and at Sheakleyville High School for two years.
She lived in Erie, Pennsylvania, for 38 years where she attended the Erie Center of the University of Pittsburgh and Villa Maria College, did part time work at the Erie Public Library from 1927 to 1931, and later tutored boys from Cathedral Prep in Latin. When her husband retired in 1962 they moved to Sheakleyville. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies were bird watching and raising roses.
