He completed his schooling at the age of twenty and thereafter gave his undivided time to agricultural matters, with the exception of 1905-7, when he was engaged in the lumber business with J. R. Thompson. When his father moved to Sheakleyville, in 1900, he assumed the entire management of the farm and estate. In connection with general operations, he operated a dairy, and was active and influential in the public affairs of the township as well. Always a Republican, he was honored with the auditorship, judge of election and member of the school board. [HMC 1909, 994]
