He received a public school education and was reared a farmer. He devoted considerable attention to the breeding of fine stock, and was quite successful. Both he and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church. In politics, he was a Democrat, was a member of the K. of P., and served several years in Company F, Fifteenth Regiment, N. G. P.
