General Notes: Husband - James McClymonds

He came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, with his parents at the age of fifteen. He was reared a farmer and always followed that occupation successfully. He received a common-school education in the tuition schools of pioneer days, under the discipline of strict masters, sitting on slabs in a log house which had paper windows and none of the modern conveniences.
Mr. McClymonds was often urged to accept office but never did so. He was a Whig and was later a Republican. He was a strong anti-slavery man. He was a friend to religion, education, temperance and every good work. He was brought up in the Associate Presbyterian faith, and in 1858 connected him-self with the United Presbyterian denomination. He reared a large family, and gave them the best of training and educa-tional opportunities. [HBC 1883, 438x]

In 1843 he established himself on a farm of eighty-seven and a half acres, given to him by his father. In the fall of 1845, he purchased his brother John's interest in the homestead of eighty-seven and a half acres, and also his brother William's of 106 acres.

He was born at Walker's Mills, and attended the local schools until the removal of the family to Portersville. His early life was spent on his father's farm, and after inheriting his share of the estate he made agriculture and stock-raising his occupation for the remainder of his life, hauling his produce to the Pittsburgh markets. He became a prominent and well-to-do farmer, filling various local offices, such as school director, supervisor, assessor and tax collector. He was a Republican and a member of the United Presbyterian church.

He and his wife had ten children; nine were still living in 1895.
