General Notes: Husband - James McKelvey

He was born on the farm which later was his own home, and received his education in the common schools. At the age of twenty-six he bought a farm known as the "Rev. Scroggs farm," where he remained nineteen years. After the death of his father he purchased the old homestead, where he then resided and to the management of which he gave his exclusive attention. In 1901 he was elected to the office of school director and three years later was re-elected. He served one term as judge of elections. He was a staunch Democrat, and a member of the Presbyterian church of Ligonier.

He was active in local affairs, having served fifteen years or more as school director and for some years filled the office of president of the board.
