General Notes: Husband - Joseph McClintock

He entered the War of 1812 as paymaster; his wife and their children made their home at the inn operated by his father-in-law. At the close of the war with Great Britain, Joseph McClintock, having been given a land grant in return for his services, with a party of prospectors went west to look up land claims, contracted a fever while traveling and died. The land warrant being returned to his widow, their second son, Ralph, when old enough, started out to make his fortune with it. At that time he could have laid claim to all the ground on which Chicago now stands. As it was swampy and partially covered with water he went further west in Illinois and chose what afterward became a fine farm.
