This family was of Scotch-Irish descent.
In 1823 he purchased at sheriff's sale a portion of the large Pentecost tract in Washington County, Pennsylvania, later owned by John Gamble, Esq. He had no sons, but four daughters.
He was at one time sheriff of Washington County, Pennsylvania.
