General Notes: Husband - Samuel McCreary

Sometime during the year 1802 Samuel McCreary came from the Buffalo Valley, in Union County, Pennsylvania, in the eastern part of the state, and located on a place on the east side of Neshannock creek, about two miles northwest of the later village of Eastbrook. He was the first settler on the place, and made the first improvements. He built a round-log house, and lived in it with his wife and one child, Enoch McCreary, who was but two years of age when his father came to the county. [HLC 1877, 74]

He came from his native place in Union County, Pennsylvania, with his wife, in 1802, and settled in Mercer County, in that section which is now a part of Lawrence County. He was a farmer by occupation, which calling, in connection with raising cattle for the market, continued to occupy his attention and to command his labors until failing powers demanded his retirement. [BOBLC, 549]

He came from his native place in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with his wife in 1802, and settled in that part of Mercer County which was later made a part of Lawrence County. He followed farming, and also raised cattle for market and indulged in other allied occupations until his failing powers demanded that he seek rest from his arduous work. He worked hard and late with an industry that was seldom seen or equalled, and he would have been considered well-to-do, for he owned upwards of six hundred acres of valuable land. He was a Whig in politics, and he and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church. [BOBLC, 572]

He came from eastern Pennsylvania as early as 1802. He settled in the woods in what is now Hickory Township, Lawrence County, erected a cabin, and set about the task of clearing his farm of its timber and underbrush. He served with credit during the War of 1812. His wife's given name was Margaret, and they were married prior to their arrival in this new western country. [TCHNCLC, 525]

He served through the Revolutionary War, under General Washington's
command. [TCHNCLC, 1005] But this is impossible if dates given in other sources are correct.

He was out several times to Erie during the War of 1812-15. [HLC 1877, 74]
He served in the War of 1812. [BOBLC, 549]

He was the father of ten children. The lists of names differ slightly, however. Several include both Eliza and Elizabeth, but exclude Sarah.
