He was a native of Ireland; he married and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the later portion of the eighteenth century. In 1785 they located in Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, where Mr. McCartney purchased seven hundred acres of land near Sheakleyville.
