General Notes: Husband - David E. McCartney

He was busy obtaining an education and assisting in the work of the home farm until he was twenty-one years of age, when for two years he engaged with neighboring farmers. He spent the succeeding three years in saw-mill work and the following two years in the coal mines at the old Hall shaft. After his marriage in 1886 he settled on a homestead, and beginning in 1901 he operated a saw-mill, besides successfully conducting his farm. He was secretary of Mercer County Grange No. 25, and director of the Patrons' Mutual Fire Association of western Pennsylvania; served one term as supervisor; and multiple terms as a member of the school board. He was an earnest and active Prohibitionist. His religious faith was founded on the doctrines of the Christian church.
