He spent his boyhood at West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, and after completing his preliminary education there he took up the study of dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, from which he received his degree in 1926. He then located at West Sunbury.
Politically, Doctor McCarrier was a Republican, and he held membership in the Presbyterian Church.
