General Notes: Husband - Nathan M. Slater

He received his education in the district school, and subsequently studied civil engineering. In 1865 he was elected surveyor of Butler County, Pennsylvania, was re-elected in 1868, and again in 1871; was appointed to the same office by the court of common pleas in 1875, and was again elected in 1880. After the expiration of his last term of office, he devoted his attention again to civil engineering. Mr. Slater was one of the most thoroughly informed men in the county in regard to the early surveys and land titles, because of the many years he served as county surveyor; while his long residence in the county made him familiar with its pioneer history, on which he was a very good authority. He was an unswerving Republican, and delighted in political discussion.
