General Notes: Husband - Humes Alexander McCandless


He obtained his education in the country schools, grew to man­hood on the home farm, and has made farming his main business in life. In 1864 he gave one year to the service of his country, enlisting in Company A, Sixth Regiment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. After the close of his military service he returned to the farm at home, where he remained until his marriage. He was a leading member of the Presbyterian Church in Center Township. [HBC 1909, 627]

He is not listed among the children of Nathan F. and Elizabeth (Thompson) McCandless in HBC 1895, 1071.
