General Notes: Husband - William McCabe

The pioneer of this family, he came to America about 1775, and later moved to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he purchased some 200 acres in what is now Collier and Robinson townships, and carried on farming. He had born to him nine children, of whom Joseph E. was one of the youngest.

Born and reared in Ireland, he came to the United States about 1783 and settled in North Strabane township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He followed carpentry, and erected many of the buildings in that locality. [CBRWC, 871]

He grew to maturity amid pioneer surroundings, obtained the best education possible under such disadvantages, mostly by solitary study, and after his marriage moved with his family to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he purchased about two hundred acres of land in what is now Collier and Robinson township. This land, wild for the most part, he converted into arable and fertile property, which he cultivated until his death, rearing in that place a family of nine children. [GPHWP, 1576]
