General Notes: Husband - James Harvey McCabe

He was a lad of nineteen, attending school at Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, preparatory to entering the ministry, when the civil war broke out. In company with many of his schoolmates he quit school to join the army, enlisting in Independent Battery G under Captain John Jay Young, and serving three years, until the close of the war. Most of his period of service in the army was spent at Fort Delaware, and it was while stationed at this point that he met his future wife.
Mr. and Mrs. McCabe took up their residence at Pittsburgh, where Mr. McCabe was engaged in business with the firm of Reed, Johnson and Company. Here they remained until 1873, when Mr. McCabe returned to his native place. Middletown (Vancefort P. O.), and engaged in mercantile business. Until 1878 he held the position of postmaster, and then, in company with his father and brother, organized a brick manufacturing company, operating on the homestead. At the end of three years they sold out their interests, but Mr. McCabe remained with the company as manager until 1881. While engaged in the brick business his residence was at Sewickley, Pennsylvania, where his children were attending school. In March, 1882, the family removed to East Liverpool, Ohio, where Mr. McCabe again engaged in mercantile business, in partnership with his brother, John M. In 1886 the firm disbanded.
