He was educated in the public and high schools of Grove City, Pennsylvania, and in early life was interested in farming. He later went with the Bessemer Gas Engine Company at Grove City, and in January, 1918, came to Harrisville, where he accepted a responsible position with the First National Bank.
He was a Republican, a member of the Presbyterian church, and belonged to the Maccabees. He was active in the affairs of Harrisville and served as a member of the city council.
