General Notes: Husband - Fred. L. Rentz

He attended the public schools of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and then worked in a blast furnace for a short time. Then, when he was thirteen years of age, he went to work for the "New Castle News," as a printer's devil. First he learned to set type, then to feed the press, then he became a pressman in the job department; later he was made foreman of the composing room in the newspaper department, then superintendent of the entire plant. In 1896 he became manager, and on the death of Mrs. George E. Treadwell, on March 29, 1924, he was made president.
During the first World War he was chairman of the local Civilian Relief Committee, and one of the "four-minute" speakers most approved by the public and most successful in his appeals. Many large commercial enterprises located in New Castle succeeded in enlisting his energies; he was a director of the Citizens' National Bank and of the Mining-Clay Products Company, and the Board of Trade.
In politics he was a Republican. In 1923 he was appointed mayor of New Castle by the City Council.
He belonged to Lodge of the Craft, No. 433, Free and Accepted Masons, and held the thirty-second degree, in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was also a life-member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a member of the Rotary Club, and was president for one term; a member of the Lawrence Club, of the Field Club, and was for ten years president of the Shenango Valley Hospital Board. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church in New Castle.
