General Notes: Husband - James Mason


A pioneer of Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.
He was the first school teacher in Franklin, Pennsylvania. He was Scotch-Irish, a man of more than ordinary mental attainments. He was a regular contributor to Horace Greely's paper, The New York Times. It was generally conceded that he had the most brilliant and best mind in the community where he lived. During the Civil War his home was one of the stations of the underground Railroad. Many a slave was helped on his way at this station.
