General Notes: Husband - John Martin

He came from Maryland in 1796, and located a tract of land in Venango County, Pennsylvania, on French creek about three miles above the location of Utica, on which he made the first improvements in the township. He kept a ferry for some years at his farm, which was known as Martin's ferry. He was remembered as a man of great physical endurance.

He had five sons, all of whom grew to manhood in French Creek Township, Venango County. With the exception of John, Jr., they all subsequently moved to other parts of the country.

He and his five sons, besides farming and ferrying, were engaged in boating from Fort Pitt to Waterford. They also built some keel boats.

He served in the War of 1812 from Venango County.
