After completing his public school education he prepared for and entered Yale University, where he took a special course in the sciences. He then went to the University of Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in 1875, after which time he took a post-graduate course in hospital work. In 1877 he located at Knox, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and began the practice of medi­cine, which he continued for a period of eighteen years. In 1895 he returned to Frank­lin, established a practice, and continued there until his death. Thoroughly equipped as he was for his profession, he was looked upon as one of the leaders in the science of medicine in Venango County. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and his fraternal connections were as follows: The Maccabees, social member of the Knights and Ladies of Honor; past master of the Edenburg Lodge, No. 550, Free and Accepted Ma­sons; past high priest of Venango Chapter, No. 211, Royal Arch Masons, and, at the time of his death, was eminent commander of Franklin Commandery, No. 44, Knights Temp­lar. He was also a member of the Park Com­mission at the time of his death.
