General Notes: Husband - James M. Marshall

He received his education in the public schools of Prospect, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and subsequently entered his father's store in that borough. In 1862 he formed a partnership with William Riddle, and carried on merchandising at Prospect down to 1873, when he retired to a farm in Worth township, and resided there until 1885. In 1880 he established the banking house, known as J. M. Marshall & Company, at Portersville, and removed to that borough in 1885. He then devoted his attention to his banking business for the next fourteen years. He was a Republican until 1868, and after that time was an ardent supporter of the Democratic party. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of Portersville. He was interested quite largely in real estate at Hazel Dell, Lawrence County, as well as in his native county.
