He was born in Jackson township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, received a common school education, and grew to manhood in his native township. He and his wife were members of the German Reformed church, in which denomination he filled the office of elder. Politically, Mr. Ziegler was a Republican, but took very little interest in public matters.
