General Notes: Husband - William McCurdy

He received his education in district schools, being reared to assist in the labors of the farm. He was at one time a boatman on the old Pennsylvania canal and became the owner of a section boat plying between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Later he owned a farm of one hundred and ten acres in Ligonier, Westmoreland County. Though not a young man at the time of the Civil War, he enlisted, on February 29, 1865, for one year or the duration of the war, in William S. Harrah's unassigned company, One Hundred and First Regiment of Infantry. On June 25, 1865, he was honorably discharged at New Berne, North Carolina. He was a Republican and at one time filled the office of supervisor. He belonged to Ligonier Post, Grand Army of the Republic, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
