He remained on the old family homestead until 1874, when he removed to Armagh, where he died.

He inherited the old home farm in Brush Valley township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. But he sold that place and bought another, near Armagh, upon which he passed the remainder of his life. His family were all Presbyterians. He was a Republican in political sentiment.
