General Notes: Husband - Joseph R. Loucks

He was educated in the public schools, and remained at home until he had attained his majority and for some years after. At the age of twenty he began teaching and for two winters was the successful instructor of a school. After his marriage he en-gaged in farming in company with his brother, David S. Loucks. For one season they were on a farm west of Scottdale, and then moved to Masontown, Fayette County, where they remained three years. Mr. Loucks then returned to Scottdale and for some years was associated with his father in the flour and feed business. He was next connected with Albert Kiesler in the conduct of the Scottdale flouring mill, and also in the handling of grain which they manufactured into flour for purposes of trade. The enterprise was conducted under the firm name of Kiesler & Loucks, and after its discontinuance he spent one year on the homestead. His next undertaking was the erection of a bakery with store room, which he equipped with all the most approved modern machinery, the site of the building being the corner of Orchard avenue and Broadway. There he carried on for two years and a half a large baking and confectionery business, and at the end of that time sold the fixtures and rented the building. He thereafter lived as a farmer on the homestead. He was a member of the Mennonite church.
