General Notes: Husband - Scott David Long

He was educated in the New Castle, Pennsylvania, schools, and finished in the State Normal School. He undertook his preparation for the practice of law under the direction of Messrs. D. B. and E. T. Kurtz of New Castle, and was admitted to the bar in May, 1869. Soon after he formed a partnership with Mr. S. W. Dana, under the firm name of Dana & Long, and they thereafter practiced very extensively throughout the county and state, taking care of a large general business in New Castle. They were well known in western Pennsylvania as a firm that was successfully engaged in many noted cases.
He and his wife were Presbyterians in their religious sympathies. He uniformly cast his vote and personal influence in favor of the Republican party and its principles.

He was born in New Castle, where he attended the public schools, afterwards attending the State Normal School, at Edinboro, then, for three winters, he taught in the township schools. From the first, his inclination was towards the law, and he studied two years in the office of Foster McCandless, in Mercer, and for a year in the office of D. B. and L. T. Kurtz, in New Castle. On May 11, 1869, he was admitted to the bar, and in that year he began the practice of his profession at New Castle, where for thirty-eight years he was a member of the law firm of Dana & Long. After the dissolution of that firm in 1907, he practiced independently. For several years he dealt extensively in real estate, and was the owner of much property in New Castle; he erected what was known as the Knox, Long & Morehead Building, on North Mill Street. He was one of the organizers of the Oak Park Cemetery, and for many years he was a member of its board of directors. In 1907, Mr. Long was one of the seven organizers of the Old Timers' Picnic Association, and continued as a member of the executive committee for many years.
Mr. Long was a Republican in politics, and a staunch supporter of the principles of that party; he served as a member of the School Board for eight years.
Mr. Long enlisted during the Civil War, and he served as a member of Company I, 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery Volunteers. He served three terms as commander of New Castle Post, Grand Army of the Republic. His fraternal affiliations are with Lodge of the Craft, No. 433, Free and Accepted Masons; and he was a member of the Masonic Club. His religious faith was that of the Presbyterian Church; he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for forty-five years, and for twenty-five years was a member of its board of trustees.
