General Notes: Husband - Armistead Lindsay Long


He graduated from U. S. military academy July 1, 1850; assigned to the Second Artillery and promoted first lieutenant July 1, 1854; resigned June 10, 1861, and entered the Confederate service as major; was promoted colonel and secretary to Gen. Robert E. Lee in April, 1862, and brigadier general of artillery in September, 1863, taking part in all of Gen. Lee's campaigns; author of "Memoirs of Gen. Lee."
