General Notes: Husband - Johannas Lischer

His father died in Germany, he subsequently coming to America with his widowed mother. Sailing from Rotterdam on the ship "Hope," he landed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sept. 23, 1734. His parents were Mennonites.

He emigrated to the United States in the ship "Hope" in 1734, in company with his mother, his father having previously died in his native land. They located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where Johannes Lisher became acquainted with members of the Moravian sect and with them he cast in his lot. In 1743 he was baptized into their faith and became a missionary to North Carolina, making two trips in the interest of that church to that state. Sometime subsequent to that day he located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
He was a miller by occupation and followed his trade for some years. In 1774 he built the first house in Nazareth, and was actively identified with the development of that portion of the state. By the marriage of his children he became the grandfather of twenty-three grandchildren.
