He attended the public schools of Brookville, Pennsylvania, finishing in 1875. He learned the tailor's trade and in 1891 engaged in the merchant tailoring business, which he conducted very successfully for over twenty years. He was a director of the Brookville Title and Trust Company, and an influential citizen. He was a Democrat in politics.
