He grew to manhood on the home farm, attending the common schools of the neighborhood during the winter months until 1894, when he entered the Lock Haven Normal, where he pursued his studies for a number of terms. He was preparing himself for the ministry; but he was engaged in teaching at Coal Hill, Brady township.
