Area Man Killed in Hunting Accident
Henrys' Bend Man Shot While Hunting Turkey
A Henrys Bend man was shot and killed while he was turkey hunting yesterday morning in the area near his home.
Phillip A. Bteffee died as the result of a gunshot wound in the neck, according to Venango County Coroner Jonathan H. Hutchinson.
State police are continuing an investigation into the death of the 30-year-old man, who was an employe of Joy Manufacturing Co, in Franklin,
Troopers said Steffee appeared to have been shot by another hunter.
But police apparently do not know who fired the rifle shot which killed Steffee.
Hutchinson is withholding a ruling on the man's death until there is further investigation of the case.
Steffee, who was outfitted in camouflage hunting clothing when he was shot, reportedly was found around 11:30 am by some other persons who were hunting in the same area in PresidentTownship.
Hutchinson could not pinpoint the time of Steffee's death, but it apparently occurred sometime between 9 and 11 am, the coroner said.
An autopsy was performed at On City Hospital to determine the exact cause of the hunter's death.
Steffee, who was a machinist at Joy, reportedly had gone alone into the woods to hunt.
The victim had been hunting near the small river community in an area between Henrys Bend Road and the Allegheny River, according to police.
