He started out in the oil business working for his father. Early in the 1940s, he started a drilling business after designing and building a small water well machine, the first transported from job to job by a trailer and later mounted on a truck. He became a well-known water and oil well driller in the Venango County area. He died in a boating accident on the Allegheny River near Oil City, Pennsylvania.
