He and his wife moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania, and thence removed to Hanover township, Beaver County, in 1794. They were members of the Seceder's Church, he also being an elder. He was a man of great intelligence and piety.
They had ten children-five boys and five girls.

Five brothers of this family, of Scotch-Irish extraction, emigrated to America in the latter part of the eighteenth century. James Leeper did not stop in York County, Pennsylvania, as did his four brothers, but came farther west, locating for a time in Washington County, and subsequently at Frankfort, Beaver County. [There seems to be some confusion in the source as to which generation was the immigrant to America.]
