General Notes: Husband - David Lawson

He received his preliminary educational training in Elders Ridge Academy. In 1856, at the age of twenty-three years, he began to study law in the office of Campbell & Lamberton. He was admitted to the state bar in 1858 and initiated the active practice of his profession in Clarion, the county seat. He resided in Clarion during the remainder of his lifetime, and when death called him, he was the oldest and most prominent attorney in the city. He was incumbent of the office of deputy treasurer under Brinker, Eddinger and Sharrar, during their respective terms. In his political allegiance he was a staunch supporter of the Democratic party, and was twice honored by his fellow citizens with election to the office of county attorney. At one time he was interested in the oil business in that section of the state, but he devoted most of his attention to the extensive law practice he had built up. For a number of years prior to his demise he was a member of the board of elders in the Presbyterian church, to whose charities and good works he was an unusually generous contributor.
