For many years he was a private banker and for ten years Cashier of the First National Bank, Erie, Pennsylvania, one of the first National banks (No. 12) organized, which bank he established with the co-operation of Messrs. J. C. Spencer, the late Gen. Chas. M. Reed and others, in 1863.

She remained with her mother until her death, and during the long ill­ness of her mother was ever with her, patient, con­siderate and kind. After the death of her mother, she married Mr. Sanford, a retired and wealthy man of excellent character, who proved a most devoted husband. They raised one son, a promising and intelligent young man, but both he and his father died before 1893.
