He was educated in the schools of West Middletown, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and then engaged in teaching school until he embarked in his present business at Washington. He was in partnership with H. H. Spriggs and they handled a large amount of valuable realty and represented the leading fire, life and accident insurance companies of the country. Mr. Lane was an active Republican for a number of years and in 1908 was elected county treasurer with a large majority.
