He graduated from the Franklin High School; Lawrenceville Preparatory School, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, 1920; Amherst College, 1924, with the honor of Grove poet, and won a loving cup for being the best all-around athlete in college. He was a member of the Scarab and Psi Upsilon fraternities. On leaving college he entered the Lamberton National Bank, and in January, 1925, became its teller.
