He was educated at the Harrisburg Academy, and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1876; studied law with Hon. John W. Simonton, and admitted to the Dauphin county bar in 1878. In 1885 he was elected district attorney, and re-elected in 1888. He was elected a member of the General Assembly in 1892 and again in 1894.
