General Notes: Husband - Peter William Henry Latshaw


At the age of about eighteen years he went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and there obtained a clerical position. Subsequently he removed to Des Moines, Iowa, where he engaged in the hardware business, with which he was identified for a period of seven years. While there he was active in the interests of the Republican party, and served a term as mayor of the city of Des Moines. He then returned to Pittsburgh, where for a time he held a position as bookkeeper and then established himself in the malting business. He was also associated with Joshua W. Rose in the conduct and operation of the Eagle Cotton Mills. During two years of the Civil War he was located at Indianapolis and Columbus, as paymaster. He and his wife were members of the Lutheran Church.
