General Notes: Husband - Dr. John S. Kuhn

He was a prominent physician of his day, who for many years practiced his profession in McKeesport and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was one of the pioneer coal-operators on the Youghiogheny river.

He graduated at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and became a physician, and was for a time attendant physician at the hospital of Jefferson College. He married a daughter of Dr. James R. Speer. At the time of the Civil war he was practicing his profession with Dr. Speer, when he became examining physician and surgeon of the recruits. Subsequently he was an army surgeon at Gettysburg. At the close of the war he retired from the practice of medicine and engaged in the iron business with Dr. Speer, but after three years returned to his profession, and was in Pittsburgh for some years, after which he moved to McKeesport, where he successfully practiced medicine for a number of years before his death.
