General Notes: Husband - Charles W. Shaner


He enlisted in Company M., Fifth Pennsylvania Cavalry, February 23, 1864, and served until August, 1865, when he was discharged. He was engaged in the oil business until 1870, then followed butchering until 1878. During 1876-79 he was constable, collector, and assessor of his township, and mercantile appraiser of the county in 1879-80. He acted as deputy sheriff from 1880 to 1883. He was a member of the G. A. R. and voted the Republican ticket. [HVC 1890, 1118]
